David Izraelevitz
for Los Alamos County Council

Thank you for visiting my campaign website.
I hope that through this site I can communicate my accomplishments in my last three years on Council, and my vision for where we need go in the next several years. The most fundamental responsibility of a councilor is to assure the efficient and effective use of tax dollars to provide services to the community. I believe that in the last three years, we have improved staff effectiveness and delivery of services, and have a good senior management team with new out-of-the-box ideas. The recent budget uncertainties have been handled prudently, and we are still poised to restore the infrastructure that was neglected for so many years previously.

I believe that my steadfast support, and that of fellow councilors, for the Trinity Site Revitalization, through its ups and down, is finally going to bear fruit, with expanded retail options and will begin to change our community's spending habits which will benefit all local businesses. It is also a good example of a county-school partnership that provides additional income to the schools, as well as making it a more attractive place to recruit highly qualified teachers and staff.
I am also very proud of my support for several capital projects that serve different segments of the community, and are finally getting underway, such as the Ashley Pond restoration, the Canyon Rim Trail, and the Teen Center. Moreover, I have been a vigorous supporter of appropriate public-private partnerships, such as our support for constructing the New Mexico Consortium building at Entrada Park. I will continue to be an advocate for local businesses that enhance our economic vitality and quality of life.
Finally, there will be many more challenges and opportunities in the coming years, from adjustments in the retail environment due to the new Smith's Marketplace, to the likely creation of the national park centered on the Manhattan Project. Budget adjustments are likely to occur, just because we are so dependent on a single employer and source of taxes. I believe we can continue to address these issues by careful review of the issues, listening to the community, and fact-based, prudent decision-making.
